1920s Embroidered Silk Satin Jacket

An exceptional hand-embroidered silk jacket dating to the late 1920s or very early 1930s. Crafted from lustrous black silk satin and fully lined in soft golden silk, it features exquisite satin-stitch floral embroidery in vivid coral, lilac, blue, orange and pale green threads. The jacket has a softly tailored shape with a notched lapel, slight flare at the hem and a single covered button fastening — a transitional design that bridges the loose 1920s silhouette and the more structured early-1930s line.

Likely made in China for the Western market, this piece reflects the period’s fascination with Chinese craftsmanship and the Art-Deco interpretation of Orientalist design. Jackets of this kind were treasured evening pieces, worn over silk gowns or boudoir ensembles for their brilliant colour and texture.

Condition
