1920s Lemon Yellow Rayon Satin & Lace French Lingerie Slip

A wonderful original 1920s French lingerie slip, handmade in an extraordinarily vibrant lemon yellow rayon satin and finished with delicate antique lace inserts.

The colour is incredible — a saturated, almost electric lemon/sunshine yellow that feels remarkably modern against the soft warm beige of the lace. The rayon satin has a beautiful fluid drape and soft sheen, giving the piece that wonderfully slinky quality associated with 1920s lingerie.

The construction is particularly charming and very clearly handmade. Large triangular lace panels form the upper bodice, with further lace godet-style inserts opening through the flared lower section. Different pieces of fabric and slightly different construction techniques have been used within the garment, including one noticeably different panel — perhaps an original make-do solution or a later period alteration. Rather than detracting from the piece, these details give it a wonderfully individual, one-of-a-kind character.

Cut in a loose, gently flaring silhouette with fine shoulder straps, it works beautifully as collectible antique lingerie but is still very wearable today — styled as a mini slip dress, layered over lingerie or under an open robe or jacket.

Condition

Good, wearable antique condition with visible signs of its approximately century-long life.

There are historic repairs, including around the straps, a few small pinholes and general signs of wear to the delicate rayon satin. One section has been constructed or repaired using a different fabric/panel, as described above. There is general age-related wear throughout, but no major damage that prevents the piece from being worn.

The condition has been taken into account in the price. As with all antique lingerie of this age, we recommend wearing and handling it with appropriate care.
