1930s Black Velvet Evening Capelet with Collar and Tie-Neck

A gorgeous original 1930s black velvet evening capelet, sourced in Paris. Simple, dramatic and beautifully cut, with the quintessentially romantic silhouette of the period.

Made from what appears to be cotton velvet, with a wonderfully rich, softly crushed pile that catches the light beautifully. The capelet is fully lined in what appears to be viscose crepe, giving it a lovely weight and drape.

The circular cut creates a generous sweep over the shoulders, falling into soft folds at the back and forming almost elbow-length coverage at the sides. A small softly gathered collar frames the neckline, while long matching velvet ties fasten in a bow at the front. The open construction makes it exceptionally easy to layer over evening dresses, slips, blouses or knitwear.

A beautiful little piece of 1930s eveningwear that feels remarkably contemporary — equally lovely worn formally or thrown over something very simple.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition. Beautifully preserved with no major flaws noted. The velvet retains a rich pile and lustre throughout.
