1940s–50s Embroidered Cotton Folk Trachten Blouse

A beautiful mid-century embroidered cotton blouse, likely dating from the 1940s–50s, with a wonderfully feminine fitted silhouette and exceptionally pretty floral embroidery.

Possibly originally a Trachtenbluse or European folk blouse, the exact origin is unknown. It is made from a soft, lightweight textured white cotton with colourful embroidered flower bouquets scattered across both the front and back in shades of coral pink, red, cornflower and deep blue, with green stems and foliage.

The neckline, short sleeves and beautifully shaped hem are finished with contrasting ochre-brown embroidery, creating a scalloped effect around the edges. Clear floral buttons run down the front.

The cut is particularly lovely: softly structured through the shoulders and bust before drawing dramatically into the waist, then curving gently outward over the hips. The shaped, embroidered hem makes it especially beautiful worn untucked with high-waisted trousers, denim or a skirt.

A very special piece of mid-century folk clothing that feels remarkably fresh and wearable today.
