1970s Aubergine Suede & Shearling Coat with Oversized Fur Collar

A stunning original 1970s suede coat in an exceptionally beautiful and unusual deep aubergine — a rich purplish-red shade that changes subtly with the nap of the suede.

Made from wonderfully soft, supple suede with contrasting smooth leather trim throughout. The interior appears to be the natural fleece side of the hide, creating a warm lining while remaining much softer and less heavy than many shearling coats from this period. The oversized shaggy fur collar appears to be faux fur.

Beautifully fitted through the body, with a defined waist and gently flared hip. The front has a striking double-breasted-inspired arrangement of suede-covered buttons, while the long matching tie belt can be used to further cinch the waist. Finished with leather-bound seams and edges, angled pockets and dark fleece visible at the cuffs and hem.

A particularly special piece of 1970s outerwear, both for its beautifully shaped silhouette and its unusual aubergine colour.

Condition

Very good vintage condition with natural variation and gentle signs of wear to the suede consistent with age. One small repair next to a buttonhole. The suede has some tonal variation in the nap, characteristic of vintage suede.
