1960s–70s Hawaiian Floral Maxi Dress with Flutter Capelet

A beautiful 1960s–70s Hawaiian maxi dress in the most wonderful shade of soft cornflower blue, scattered with oversized flowers in vivid orange, white and touches of green.

Made in Hawaii and bearing labels for Liberty House of Hawaii and Princess Kaiulani Hawaii, this is a particularly lovely example of vintage Hawaiian resort wear, with a wonderfully romantic silhouette and striking floral print.

The dress is made from a beautifully lightweight cotton blend with the soft, airy feel and delicate texture of fine cotton voile or gauze. The fabric has a subtle, almost imperceptible sheen and a lovely fluid drape, while retaining the natural look and feel of lightweight cotton. A white cotton lining is incorporated directly into the construction, giving the dress its wonderfully light, floaty appearance while ensuring it remains opaque when worn.

The standout feature is the gorgeous, generously cut flutter capelet, which falls softly over the shoulders and upper arms and continues across the back. Beneath it, the dress has a flattering V-neckline with a delicate tie at the centre front, a fitted underbust and a long, gently flowing skirt.

The low scoop back adds another beautiful detail, while the combination of the soft blue background and vibrant orange floral print feels quintessentially late 1960s to early 1970s.
