Rare 1940s Cotton Floral Maxi House / Tea Dress with Bakelite Buttons

A beautifully preserved original 1940s house / tea dress in soft, lightweight cotton, featuring an unusual full-length silhouette and a wonderfully vibrant painterly floral print.

Originally designed as a practical house dress, but equally appropriate for casual daywear, this piece combines everyday functionality with the feminine charm of 1940s fashion. Details include gently puffed short sleeves, a pointed collar, a fitted bodice, practical front pockets and striking oversized marbled pink Bakelite buttons running all the way to the hem.

The matching self-fabric tie belt defines the waist, while the flowing skirt can be worn fully buttoned or partially open to create a dramatic slit.

Its rare maxi length and vivid floral print also lend themselves beautifully to a romantic, 1970s-inspired wardrobe.

Condition

Very good vintage condition. A small hole near one of the buttons has been repaired and is not particularly noticeable. The buttonholes show some wear and could be reinforced if desired, although this is not currently necessary.
