1920s–1930s Indian Cashmere Wool Jacket with Embroidered Trim

A truly exceptional textile piece dating to the late 1920s or early 1930s, handcrafted in India from a luxurious cashmere wool blend and finished with intricate embroidered detailing in vivid turquoise and crimson.

Pieces such as this beautifully illustrate the long fascination between Indian textile traditions and Western fashion. While originally created decades before the bohemian movement of the 1960s and 1970s, it feels remarkably modern when styled with denim, prairie dresses, Indian cottons and other free-spirited wardrobe staples.

The silhouette is softly structured and slightly boxy, designed to skim rather than closely follow the body. Particularly striking are the embroidered panels framing the front opening, cuffs, collar and back hem, creating a wonderful contrast against the rich crimson wool.  Very good antique condition.

 The wool remains beautifully preserved and retains its rich colour. The silk lining shows some age-related wear and faint markings consistent with a garment approaching one hundred years old, but there are no significant tears, holes or structural issues noted. The embroidery remains vibrant and intact throughout.
