1920s–30s Black Wool Jacket with Kashmiri-Style Floral Embroidery

An exquisite antique wool jacket, believed to date from the 1920s–1930s, featuring exceptionally beautiful floral embroidery reminiscent of the rich textile traditions of Kashmir.

Crafted from black wool, the jacket is adorned with intricate embroidery in a striking palette of turquoise, coral pink, warm orange and cream. Elaborate stylised floral and paisley motifs sweep along the front opening and lower panels, while delicate embroidered borders decorate the collar, cuffs, pockets and hem.

The decorative work recalls the celebrated Kashmiri tradition of floral needlework, particularly the intricate motifs found on historic Indian shawls. Combined with its distinctly European-inspired tailoring, the jacket beautifully reflects the fascination with South Asian textiles and decorative arts in early twentieth-century fashion.

The silhouette is gently shaped through the waist, widening subtly towards the hem to create a flattering, slightly A-line profile. A small pointed collar, discreet hook-and-eye fastenings and two practical pockets with cotton pocketing complete the design.
