1970s Cotton Gauze Indian Block Print Midi Dress

A beautiful original 1970s Picken brand cotton gauze dress in a rich crimson red, purple, muted green and gold colourway.

Made from wonderfully soft, lightweight cotton gauze with an intricate Indian-inspired floral and border print, accented throughout with subtle gold metallic stamping. The bodice is particularly lovely, constructed from contrasting printed panels with decorative trims and a softly pointed centre front. A tie neckline is finished with beads and gold sequin embellishments.

The dress has a high, softly gathered underbust seam and an exceptionally full, flowing skirt. Long balloon sleeves are left unlined, giving them a beautiful semi-sheer quality, while the bodice and skirt are fully lined in lightweight cotton.

A wonderful example of the romantic, Indian-influenced bohemian fashion of the 1970s, and especially good styled with tall boots, suede and shearling for autumn and winter.

Condition

Very good vintage condition. The cotton gauze has softened beautifully with age and shows normal gentle signs of wear. The decorative sequin elements are missing from two of the neckline ties. No significant holes, rips or tears noted.
