1970s Indian Cotton Gauze Floral Maxi Dress with Gold Stamping

A beautiful 1970s Indian cotton gauze dress in the prettiest shades of raspberry red, soft pink and warm earthy tones, with an intricate floral print and delicate gold detailing throughout.

Made from wonderfully soft, lightweight cotton gauze, the dress features a lovely combination of densely patterned floral fabric and contrasting raspberry-red panels, decorated with intricate gold metallic printing. The decorative yoke is particularly beautiful, with delicate floral motifs, geometric borders and a narrow band of rich gold detailing running across the bust and around the back.

A softly gathered empire-line silhouette falls into a wonderfully full, flowing skirt, with a tiered construction and a wide contrasting floral border around the hem. The long, gently gathered sleeves and open neckline with braided ties, little orange beads and tasselled ends complete the classic 1970s Indian bohemian look.

The combination of the beautiful colours, intricate printing and generous amount of fabric gives this dress wonderful movement. An incredibly wearable piece that looks just as lovely with boots and a jacket as it does with sandals in warmer weather.

Condition

Very good vintage condition, with gentle signs of age and wear.

There is one carefully executed and fully secure repair, reinforced from the inside with a patch and machine stitching. The repair has been exceptionally well matched to the printed fabric and is virtually undetectable from the outside.

The sleeve cuffs have a softly gathered finish, although any original elasticity appears to have relaxed with age. They sit naturally as loose cuffs and do not detract from the overall appearance or wearability of the dress.
