Rare 1940s Cotton Floral Maxi Dress with Self Tie

A beautifully preserved 1940s tea dress in soft, lightweight cotton, featuring a rare full-length maxi cut and an equally unusual self-fabric tie belt. The silhouette is pure wartime practicality softened with feminine details: puffed short sleeves, a gently fitted bodice, and a flowing skirt that buttons all the way to the hem with pink plastic buttons, possibly early Bakelite.

These kinds of dresses were essential in the 1940s, offering comfort, modesty, and charm during times of scarcity. Yet the vivid floral print and long lines feel surprisingly modern today. In fact, 1970s fashion heavily borrowed from these earlier decades—tea dresses, waist ties, and soft cotton florals all made a comeback. Condition
Very good vintage condition. A small hole near one of the buttons has been repaired and does not stand out. The button holes could potentially be reinforced but not necessary.
