1930s Black Tulle Ruffle Bolero

An exquisite 1930s tulle bolero, designed as a light, decorative layer to be worn over slips, evening dresses, or lingerie-style gowns. Pieces like this were an essential part of the 1930s wardrobe, adding softness, texture, and modesty while preserving the long, fluid lines of the era.

This bolero is constructed from multiple horizontal layers of fine black tulle, creating a beautifully rippled, tiered surface with gentle volume and movement. The interior is softly lined in what appears to be silk georgette, providing structure and comfort while allowing the outer tulle to remain airy and delicate. The neckline is finished with a fine ruffled tulle edge that frames the collarbone and shoulders.

The cut is short and cropped, typical of the period, with soft shoulders and short sleeves. There is no external closure. The lining features original, neatly finished tie openings, indicating the bolero was originally designed to be fastened with a ribbon or narrow tie, now no longer present. It can be worn open as intended or styled with a replacement ribbon if desired.

Shown here layered over a 1930s silk slip, it also works beautifully over modern dresses, camisoles, or eveningwear, adding instant vintage romance without feeling costume-like.

Condition

Good vintage condition. The outer tulle layers are sturdy, intact, and well preserved. The lining shows age-related wear, including a few scattered small holes and original tie openings where a fastening was once present. The original tie is no longer included. These issues are not visible when worn and do not affect the structure or wearability of the piece.
