Description
A beautifully crafted suede and shearling jacket dating to the 1960s, purchased in Hamburg and representative of high-quality European boutique leatherwear of the period. The jacket is made from exceptionally soft, supple suede in black and fully lined with warm, dense sheepskin. Matching shearling trims the collar, front edges, cuffs and hem, creating a rich, tactile contrast.
The design reflects the widespread interest in folk and Eastern European visual influences that permeated European fashion in the 1960s. Decorative stitched motifs at the pockets, red leather piping, and the distinctive shearling tassel ties echo folkloric design language, interpreted here in a refined, non-ethnographic way. Rather than traditional dress, these elements point to a designer-led adaptation of folk aesthetics, typical of European ateliers and boutiques during this era.
The silhouette is relaxed and versatile, allowing for easy layering while still sitting neatly on the body. The jacket can be worn open or loosely tied at the front, making it adaptable across seasons and styling moods. The suede has aged beautifully, remaining soft and fluid, while the sheepskin lining and trims are plush and flexible.
A strong, characterful outerwear piece that combines warmth, craftsmanship and subtle cultural reference, without feeling costume-like.
Condition
Very good vintage condition. The suede is soft and well preserved, and the sheepskin lining and trims remain supple. No structural issues.
Styling notes
Works beautifully over dresses, blouses or knitwear. Ideal as a statement winter or transitional jacket with texture and depth.
