1960s Tapestry Chenille Ski Jacket with Faux Fur Collar

A fabulous original 1960s jacket in a richly textured, heavyweight chenille tapestry fabric, made by Val Hughes, Montreal, Canada.

The tapestry has an ornate, almost carpet-like pattern in deep burgundy, black, warm beige, muted gold and touches of blue, finished with a wonderfully plush black faux-fur collar. The jacket is fully lined and lightly padded with a quilted interior, giving it the structure and warmth of a vintage ski or winter jacket.

It fastens at the front with a double-ended metal Lightning zipper and has zipped pockets. The sleeves feature concealed elasticated inner cuffs beneath the tapestry outer sleeve — a lovely practical detail characteristic of sporty outerwear of the period.

A particularly striking piece that works beautifully as a statement winter jacket while still being very wearable.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition overall. The tapestry exterior presents beautifully, the faux-fur collar is full and plush, and the quilted lining is in very good condition. All zippers are in good working order. One pocket lining shows signs of wear consistent with age and use.
