1970s/80s Dale of Norway Wool Cardigan

A beautiful and highly collectible vintage Dale of Norway cardigan, dating from the late 1970s to early 1980s. Crafted from thick, dense pure new wool, this is a traditional Norwegian knit with a wonderfully substantial feel and excellent warmth. The wool is notably heavy and compact, giving the cardigan a structured silhouette and that unmistakable heritage quality Dale of Norway is known for.

The cardigan features a classic black and cream Norwegian geometric pattern throughout, framed by striking red knitted trim that resembles ribbon but is fully integrated into the knit. The front fastens with ornate traditional silver-tone hook-and-eye clasps, a hallmark of authentic Norwegian cardigans. Additional decorative silver buttons finish the cuffs, adding a beautiful artisanal detail. The neckline is softly shaped and designed to sit open or closed, making it perfect for layering over dresses or blouses.

This piece is labelled size 38 / XS and truly does run small, particularly through the shoulders and chest. When fastened, it fits best on a modern XS to small S, depending on desired layering. The dense wool has some natural give but should not be considered stretchy in fit.
