1970s Embroidered Afghan Sheepskin Coat

A truly spectacular example of a 1970s Afghan sheepskin coat, richly hand-embroidered with floral and geometric motifs. This is the real deal—made in Afghanistan during the height of the hippie trail era and brought to Europe during the early 70s when these coats became emblematic of counterculture style.

The coat features dense, curly cream shearling and soft, tobacco-toned suede decorated with intricate tonal embroidery across the sleeves, shoulders, and back. The craftsmanship is exceptional—thick, warm, and weighty with dramatic panels and ornamental whipstitching. The double front pockets and swirled detailing on the arms are especially striking.

The Afghan coat became a fashion icon in the 60s and 70s, famously worn by The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and later embraced by the bohemian revival of the decade. It’s not just fashion—it’s wearable history.

This particular piece is in excellent vintage condition. The suede remains soft and vibrant, and the shearling is full and clean. There is a small patch at the back of the collar where the hair is slightly shorter, than the rest of the fur, and a few faint markings here and there, consistent with age, but nothing that detracts from the overall effect.
