Description
A delicate and wearable Edwardian cotton tea dress dating to the early 20th century, circa 1905–1915. Made from a light, semi-sheer cotton gauze, this dress represents a more informal, everyday style of the Edwardian period, intended to be worn loosely over a slip rather than tightly fitted to the body. The overall effect is soft, airy and effortless, with beautiful period detailing throughout.
The dress features a high neckline with fine crochet-style lace detailing that runs from the neckline down the bodice to the waist. The waist panel is finished in Swiss-dotted, embroidered cotton, adding subtle texture and definition, while the skirt falls freely in plain white cotton gauze. Additional delicate lace and crochet-style details accent the bodice, and the short sleeves are softly gathered, giving the dress a gentle, youthful character.
While originally an Edwardian tea dress, this piece lends itself beautifully to modern styling. Its light, airy construction and almost girl-like proportions can be styled in a contemporary way with boots and a leather jacket, or worn casually in summer layered over swimwear, allowing the slip or undergarments to become part of the look. Equally, it can be styled in a softer, more romantic direction with delicate Mary Janes or ballet flats to emphasise its feminine, early 20th-century charm. A versatile piece that moves easily between historical romance and modern ease.
The dress opens at the side with four original metal press studs, with the remaining side seam left open below, consistent with period construction intended for ease of dressing and wear over undergarments. The neckline also opens at the shoulder with four press studs, another practical Edwardian detail. A slip would originally have been worn underneath, and is recommended for contemporary wear.

This dress is designed to be worn loose and unfitted, with the waist sitting softly rather than cinched. Best suited to a modern S–M depending on desired drape, and ideal for those who appreciate an authentic Edwardian silhouette worn with ease rather than structure.
Condition is very good for its age. There are small, scattered pinholes and areas of light thinning to the cotton, primarily on the skirt, consistent with age and wear of a fine gauze fabric. These are subtle and do not affect the structure or wearability of the dress. No major damage or structural issues.
Best suited for: relaxed fit, worn with a slip
