Description

An exquisitely delicate antique embroidered tulle bodice dating to the early 1910s and purchased in France. Pieces like this — with their fine embroidered net, airy floral motifs and ethereal construction — are strongly associated with French Edwardian lingerie and tea garments of the period, and this example carries that same romantic lightness beautifully.

The sheer embroidered tulle has an almost weightless quality, with intricate ivory floral embroidery trailing across the bodice and soft scalloped collar. The silhouette feels incredibly poetic on the body — fragile-looking yet surprisingly wearable when layered over silk lingerie, slips or modern separates.

The fine netting, embroidery style and delicate construction all strongly support an Edwardian dating. A beautiful and increasingly rare survivor from the early 20th century.

Condition:

Excellent antique condition overall considering age. Structurally sound but naturally delicate, as expected for a fine embroidered tulle garment over 100 years old. There is one small repair at the front and one at the back, both discreet and well executed, along with one or two tiny pinholes that are difficult to notice amongst the embroidery and sheer texture of the textile.
