Description
A beautifully delicate antique dress dating to the late 1910s- early 1920s, crafted from soft cream silk and decorated with intricate lace insertion panels. The dress features an elegant empire waistline and a flowing silhouette typical of the transitional period between the late Edwardian era and the early 1920s.
The bodice is constructed with vertical lace insertion panels framed by softly gathered silk, while a wide lace band defines the empire waist. The neckline is softly scooped and finished with fine lace trim, creating a romantic and feminine effect characteristic of dresses of this period.
Below the empire waist the skirt combines smooth silk panels with horizontal lace insertions before flowing into a wonderfully airy lace net lower skirt. The lace features small raised motifs and finishes with a beautifully detailed scalloped hem with paisley-like embroidery that creates beautiful movement when worn.
The skirt is constructed with a second silk layer beneath the lace section, providing coverage while maintaining the light and airy appearance of the lace overlay.
Pieces like this were often worn as wedding or special occasion dresses in the early 1920s and are increasingly rare to find in such wearable condition today. A truly romantic heirloom garment that can easily be styled for modern wear.
Condition
Very good antique condition. The silk remains soft and wearable and the lace panels are beautifully preserved. Minor signs of age may be present as expected for a garment of this age but nothing that detracts from the overall beauty or wearability of the piece.
