Antique 1920s Embroidered Blooms French Crepe Kimono Robe

A breathtaking survivor of the Jazz Age, this 1920s kimono robe is crafted from - weighty yet fluid matte (probably) silk crepe and lavishly embroidered with multicoloured florals that cascade across the body and sleeves. Each stitch is a testament to the exquisite craftsmanship of the era, when the fascination with Chinoiserie and Asian-inspired design was at its height. Wrap around style with self ties which can be fastened at the front or the back, or the kimono can be worn open. Can be worn as lounge or boudoir wear, as an evening dress, or thrown over a camisole with jeans. 

Styling

Wear it layered over a silk slip dress for evening glamour, or style it as a dramatic coat over tailored trousers and heels. It also works beautifully as an at-home robe, echoing its original purpose: indulgent, artistic leisure.

Condition

Exceptional vintage condition for its age. The black silk crepe remains strong and supple, and the embroidery is vivid and intact. Only the lightest signs of age: a few loose threads and a small section of seam undone on one of the ties. For a garment that is over 100 years old, this level of preservation is extraordinary. Most surviving examples from the 1920s show significant silk weakening, fading, or fraying embroidery — making this robe a rare collector’s piece.
