Antique to Early Vintage Embroidered Folk Bodice / Cotton Corset Cover

A beautiful antique to early vintage folk bodice in substantial white linen or cotton-linen, richly embroidered with vivid floral motifs in raspberry red, pink, lavender, soft green and forget-me-not blue tones. Finished with unusual turquoise soutache-style scalloped trim and tiny fabric-covered buttons down the front.

 A particularly charming and wearable piece which sits somewhere between traditional folk dress, Edwardian underpinnings and 1930s peasant revival fashion. The shaping seams through the bodice create a surprisingly flattering fit, while the open neckline and cropped cut make it incredibly easy to style with high-waisted skirts, denim or layered lingerie pieces.

 The construction and materials strongly suggest genuine age. The piece is handmade with period construction details and older finishing techniques throughout. While an exact date is difficult to guarantee with handmade folk garments, it is being dated conservatively as antique to early vintage, likely somewhere between the 1920s and 1940s.

 The embroidery has a beautiful softness and irregularity only really seen in older hand-guided work, and the lightweight netted underarm inserts further support the earlier dating.

Good antique/vintage condition with general gentle wear consistent with age. Some soft creasing and slight irregularities to cotton and embroidery as expected from a handmade garment of this age. Presents beautifully and is structurally sound.
