1930s/40s Romanian Blouse

 A beautiful Romanian or Eastern European folk blouse dating to approximately the 1930s–1940s, handmade using traditional regional textile techniques that had been passed down through generations. Pieces like this sit in that fascinating space between folk costume and early modern fashion — deeply rooted in regional dress traditions, yet remarkably contemporary in silhouette and texture.

 Constructed from a combination of heavily textured crinkle cotton and handwoven raw linen panels, the blouse has an incredible sculptural quality when worn. The dramatic gathered neckline and sleeves create soft architectural volume, balanced by a more fitted linen waist panel that gives shape and structure to the silhouette.

 The sleeve construction is particularly striking — voluminous gathered sleeves trimmed with red, navy, and black embroidery alongside crochet-style lace insertion details. The embroidery has that beautiful dense folk quality that feels both decorative and structural, while the richly textured cotton creates an almost smocked appearance throughout the bodice and sleeves.

 Condition is good wearable vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of wear. There are some small areas of wear and light fraying to the linen lower panel, including a small hole near the hem, alongside general softening and irregularities to the handmade fabric and stitching consistent with age and use. Overall, it presents beautifully worn.
