Description

1960s Afghan dress in beautifully time-softened tones, featuring a richly embroidered bodice with remnants of traditional mirror work.

An evocative and highly collectible piece, most likely dating to the late 1960s (possibly early 1970s).  Crafted from a sturdy yet soft cotton, the dress has developed a natural, even patina over time — the deep berry red and muted green having gently faded into complex, earthy hues that speak to decades of wear and life.

The bodice is densely embroidered in traditional geometric patterns, originally adorned with small shisha mirrors, of which only traces remain. This loss is entirely characteristic of age and wear, and rather than detracting, adds a quiet authenticity and depth to the textile.

Constructed in a classic, unfussy silhouette, the dress slips over the head with no closures — a detail often seen in more traditional garments. The full, pleated skirt creates beautiful movement, balanced by relaxed dolman sleeves and a structured embroidered panel that anchors the shape.

A rare and deeply atmospheric piece — less about perfection, more about presence, history, and textile integrity.

Condition
Very good vintage condition. Beautiful, even fading throughout, contributing to its character. One very small, neatly repaired hole near the back underarm area, barely noticeable when worn. Expected wear to mirror elements in the bodice.
