Vintage Anokhi Block Print Cotton Dress – Collectable 1970s Indian Bohemian Icon

This stunning vintage dress from Anokhi is a beautiful example of hand-crafted block printing at its most refined. Made in India for the Western export market in the 1970s, it features a striking floral motif in deep crimson and ochre with hints of indigo, framed by a wide border of traditional Mughal-style patterns at the hem. The silhouette is loose and easy, with voluminous gathered sleeves, an empire-line bodice, and a notched neckline with tasseled ties — classic features of 1970s Indo-bohemian design.

Founded in Jaipur in 1970, Anokhi played a pivotal role in reviving traditional Indian textile techniques, especially hand block printing using natural dyes. At a time when Western fashion was embracing the handmade and artisanal, Anokhi stood out for its exceptional quality, artistic integrity, and deep respect for the craftspeople it employed. Today, early pieces like this one are highly collectable, cherished both for their beauty and their role in cross-cultural fashion history.
