1970s Taupe Embroidered Afghan Coat

A striking 1970s Afghan coat in a soft taupe suede, finished with long cream shearling trim and beautifully detailed embroidery in tones of orange, blue and white. The colour combination feels particularly fresh and vibrant, giving this traditional silhouette a lighter, more contemporary feel that works especially well for spring. The coat has a gently elongated shape with a flattering line through the body while remaining soft and easy to wear.

Compared to heavier Afghan coats, this piece has a lighter feel, making it ideal for transitional seasons without compromising on warmth. Condition

Please note this is a handmade, 50-60 year old coat anbd imperfections or inconsistencies are to be expected. Having said that, the coat is in very Good vintage condition. Structurally excellent with no holes or tears. Professionally cleaned. The suede shows visible signs of wear, including areas of discolouration and markings that remain after cleaning, consistent with age and use. There are originally two hook and eye closures, one hook is missing. This is reflected in the price. The coat remains fully wearable and presents beautifully overall.

Authentic Afghan coats are handmade from natural, minimally processed shearling and suede, and variations in texture, tone and finish are inherent to these materials and part of their authenticity. The interior is lined in natural shearling which retains its original wool texture, and sensitivity to wool or textured natural fibres varies from person to person — those with very sensitive skin may prefer to wear a layer underneath, and those who are very sensitive may want to avoid. These characteristics are typical of genuine vintage Afghan coats and are not considered flaws.
