1970s Brocade Afghan Style Penny Lane Coat with Faux Fur Trim

A beautiful 1970s brocade coat in warm caramel brown and antique gold with dramatic faux fur trim along the collar, front placket, cuffs and hem. This piece captures that iconic early-70s romantic silhouette — softly structured, textural and effortlessly statement-making.

The outer fabric has a subtle velvet-sheen sateen base with raised brocade florals woven throughout, giving depth and quiet opulence. The surface catches the light beautifully without feeling heavy. There is no fabric label present, but the hand suggests a cotton blend sateen with brocade overlay. 

The coat fastens with three hook-and-eye closures at the front, maintaining a clean, uninterrupted line. It features exterior pockets as well as interior pockets, making it both elegant and practical. The interior is lightly quilted with what appears to be a polyester-acetate lining — warm but not bulky, making this ideal for autumn, mild winter and early spring layering.

The faux fur trim frames the neckline dramatically and adds movement and softness. It shows light, natural age-related wear and texture variation, consistent with vintage faux fur of this era, but remains full and presentable. Lines in quilted synthetic fabric- possibly acetate. There are no labels and this may have been hand, rather than commercially made.

Condition

Good vintage condition. No rips, tears or holes. Structure and fabric are strong. Faux fur shows gentle wear consistent with age but no bald patches or structural damage. Some wear to the fabric wrapped around the fastening loop (see picture)but this is not visible when worn.

EU 36 – 38, possibly smaller 40

UK 8 – 10, possibly smaller 12

US 4 – 6, possibly smaller 8

The model (EU 36) wears it comfortably with room. It can accommodate an EU 38 depending on layering, as it is lightly quilted rather than thickly insulated. Best styled with light to medium layers rather than very bulky knits. Please compare with a similar coat you own for best accuracy.
