1970s Indian Cotton Gauze Blouse & Quilted Vest Set

A beautiful original 1970s Indian cotton set consisting of a wonderfully soft, semi-sheer cotton gauze blouse and matching quilted vest, both printed in an intricate floral and paisley design in shades of cornflower blue, lavender, soft pink and muted olive with metallic gold detailing.

The blouse has a wonderfully romantic, slightly bohemian silhouette, with a softly gathered neckline, long ties finished with tiny metal bells and full sleeves gathered into buttoned cuffs. The fine cotton gauze is incredibly light and airy, with the generous cut creating beautiful movement when worn.

The matching cropped vest is particularly special, made from the same printed cotton with diamond quilting across the front and back and contrasting patterned panels. Metallic gold detailing picks up beautifully against the blue, while the curved open front gives it a lovely little bolero-like shape.

Designed to be worn together, the two pieces create an amazing layered 70s look, but both are equally lovely separately. The blouse works beautifully tucked into denim or worn loose, while the quilted vest could be layered over dresses, blouses and simple knits.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition overall. There is one very small, discreet repair to a tiny pinhole on one sleeve of the blouse. Otherwise both pieces present beautifully, with only normal minor signs of age and wear.

Size & Fit

The blouse has a loose, softly gathered fit and is approximately best suited to EU 36–40 / UK 8–12 / US 4–8, depending on desired fit.

The vest is considerably more fitted and is approximately best suited to EU 34–36 / UK 6–8 / US 2–4. When the pieces are worn together as intended, the vest is therefore the determining factor for fit.

The blouse sleeves are cut generously to create volume and are gathered into fitted button cuffs, so the long sleeve measurement is intentional rather than indicating an oversized sleeve fit.
