Description
A truly special and increasingly rare piece from the 1970s, crafted from featherlight Indian cotton gauze with a beautifully softened, sun-washed patina. This dress embodies the spirit of early boutique imports along the hippie trail, where traditional block print textiles were reimagined into effortlessly romantic silhouettes.
The construction is particularly striking: a delicate double-strap bodice with a softly structured bust panel and gentle gathering that falls into a fluid, airy skirt. The movement is exceptional — the fabric almost weightless, catching light and air with every step.
The print itself is subtle yet rich — muted earthy khaki layered with soft turquoise and faded rose motifs, framed by finely detailed borders. A piece that feels both grounded and ethereal.
The dress can be worn both ways, with the buttoned panel styled either at the front or back depending on preference. Shown here worn with buttons to the front.
Condition
This dress is in good vintage condition, especially considering the extremely delicate nature of the fabric. The cotton gauze has developed a beautiful patina over time.
There are some small sections of shattering to the fabric consistent with the lightness of the textile on one section of the dress. A few small holes have been sensitively repaired, and a few very small pinholes remain, but they are not visible when worn worn and do not detract from the overall impression of the piece, but is nonetheless considered in the price.
Please note
This garment is made from exceptionally lightweight cotton gauze, a textile prized for its softness and airy quality but inherently fragile. Minor irregularities, wear, small repairs, and the delicate nature of the fibre should be expected and embraced as part of its history.
