Rare 1970s Mongolian Sheepskin Coat in Soft Cream Suede

An exceptional and beautifully preserved Mongolian sheepskin coat from the 1970s, crafted from buttery-soft cream suede with a luxuriously dense, cloud-like shearling lining. What makes this piece particularly remarkable is its condition: for a light-coloured sheepskin of this age, it has survived in an unusually clean, fresh, and well-kept state — something rarely seen and highly sought after by collectors.

Coats of this kind are rooted in traditional Mongolian and Central Asian nomadic dress, where sheepskin garments were essential for survival in extreme climates. Unlike Eastern European folk coats, these pieces prioritised insulation, durability, and full-body warmth, while still maintaining elegant, elongated silhouettes. During the 1960s and 1970s, Mongolian sheepskin coats entered the European fashion landscape through trade and export, becoming coveted for their exceptional warmth, tactile beauty, and quietly powerful presence. This coat is made from exceptionally soft, supple sheepskin.
