Description

1970s Afghan Cotton Dress with Embroidered Yoke

A beautiful 1970s Afghan dress, likely made for the Western export market during the height of the hippie trail era. Cut from indigo cotton with a hand-blocked print, it features a contrasting embroidered yoke and dramatic flared skirt, finished with wide sleeve borders. The silhouette bridges Afghan folk costume and Western bohemian style — exactly the kind of piece sold in London’s Carnaby Street boutiques or picked up in Kabul by travellers heading east.

Kate Bush herself was known to wear similar Afghan dresses in the late 1970s, drawn to their theatrical sweep and folkloric romance.

Styling

Wear with cowboy boots or layered jewellery for a true 70s folk-rock look, or style with sandals and a simple belt for modern wear.

Excellent vintage condition. The cotton shows a gentle softness from age and light wear, which enhances the drape and comfort of the piece. Embroidery and seams are intact, colours remain rich and vibrant.
