Early-mid 20th Century Romanian Transylvanian Leather Sheepskin Embroidered Vest

A rare and beautifully preserved example of Transylvanian folk craftsmanship from the early to mid-20th century. The exterior is hand-worked leather, traditionally tanned and shaped, while the interior retains its natural curly wool fleece for warmth and structure.

The vest is richly decorated with vibrant hand embroidery, featuring dense rosette and floral motifs in jewel-toned threads — a hallmark of ceremonial garments worn for weddings, festivals and special village celebrations. The edges are reinforced with hand-braided natural wool trim, showcasing exceptional regional skill and textile artistry.

Designed to be worn open without closures, allowing a flexible, flattering fit. A highly collectible ethnographic textile — wearable art with deep cultural heritage.
