Description

 

An elegant floral satin dress dating to the late 1930s or early 1940s, cut to follow the natural lines of the body with a softly shaped, fluid silhouette. The dress features a deep V neckline with gently gathered bust detailing that creates shape without rigidity, flowing into a defined waist and a softly draped skirt that falls to a mid-calf length. The painterly floral print, rendered in rich jewel tones against a soft pink ground, has a watercolour-like quality typical of the period and gives the dress remarkable visual depth and movement.

 

 

The sleeves are softly structured with a cap-style cut that sits elegantly on the shoulder, leaving the arms free while balancing the deep neckline. The dress is finished with practical side pockets, a rare and charming detail that adds both functionality and character. It fastens at the side with an original metal zipper, a feature consistent with late 1930s and early 1940s construction and helpful in narrowing the dating of the piece.
