Size & Fit

Size & Fit

Best suited approximately to EU 36–38 / UK 8–10 / US 4–6, depending particularly on shoulder, upper-arm and wrist measurements.

The bust is intentionally very generous and designed to blouse rather than fit closely. The waist can be adjusted using the back ties. Please pay particular attention to the wrist measurement, as the cuffs are narrow and will be the limiting measurement for fit.

Description

A beautiful original 1910s Edwardian blouse in wonderfully light, semi-sheer white cotton batiste or cotton gauze, scattered throughout with delicate white-on-white floral embroidery.

The most striking feature is the wonderful oversized sailor-style collar, edged in fine lace and falling softly over the shoulders and bust. Beneath it sits a separate-looking embroidered modesty panel / inset at the neckline, also finished with lace — a lovely detail typical of the period. The blouse has long, gently gathered sleeves with narrow lace-trimmed cuffs and fastens discreetly at the front.

At the back, long integral ties draw in the waist and create that characteristic pigeon-breasted / blouson Edwardian silhouette. The generous bust measurement is therefore not intended to fit closely; it is designed to blouse softly over the fitted waist.

A remarkably wearable antique piece and beautiful styled with a long skirt, as shown, or contrasted with denim.

Condition

Excellent antique condition. No holes, tears or major signs of wear noted. Exceptionally well preserved considering that the blouse is over 100 years old.

As with all antique garments of this age, it should nevertheless be worn and handled with appropriate care.
