1960s Mexican Suede Fringe Jacket in Berry Rust Red

A 1960s Mexican suede fringe jacket in a rich naturally varied berry-rust red. Made in Mexico and crafted from thick yet supple suede, this piece embodies that authentic mid-century Western and bohemian spirit.

The colour is what makes it truly special. Parts read as deep berry red, others lean toward warm rust. The tonal variation appears to be the result of natural dyeing and age, giving the jacket depth and dimension rather than flat uniform colour. The surface shifts subtly in different light, creating movement even when still.

Long fringe runs across the chest, down the sleeves and across the back yoke, giving dramatic motion when worn. The silhouette is gently shaped through the waist with a straight hip line. It fastens with distinctive chunky square buttons which have a substantial feel — possibly early synthetic such as Bakelite or celluloid — adding to its mid-century character.

Fully lined in satin (likely acetate), making it comfortable and easy to layer. The suede is thick but not stiff — it remain s supple with beautiful natural drape.

Condition

Good vintage condition for approximately 50–60 years old. The suede shows natural tonal variation and subtle colour depth throughout, consistent with age and natural dyeing. There are a few superficial surface scratches on the sleeves that do not penetrate the leather. General light markings and signs of age are present, as expected for a piece of this era.

On the back, one fringe strand shows a tiny area of loss; otherwise the fringe remains largely intact. No structural damage, no tears, and seams are strong. Overall structurally excellent with authentic vintage patina.
