A beautifully crafted vintage Indian silver devotional necklace from the 1970s, featuring a substantial rectangular amulet suspended from a distinctive silver chain. The chain is not a standard fine link but a thicker, flexible, snake-style chain, giving the piece real presence and weight when worn.
The amulet itself is richly detailed, made using repoussé and relief work, where the silver has been worked from the reverse and front to create depth, texture and intricate surface detail. Within arched niches sit Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi, framed by fine geometric borders and floral corner motifs. The level of detail is remarkable — from the facial features and drapery to the surrounding decorative elements — giving the pendant a sculptural, almost architectural quality.
This type of devotional jewellery was widely produced by Indian silversmiths in the 1960s–70s, often sold locally and along the hippie trail. Pieces were typically hand-worked rather than machine-finished, which explains the slight variations and the absence of a hallmark — entirely normal for Indian silver of this period. The silver shows natural oxidation and patina consistent with age.
Ganesh is traditionally associated with protection, new beginnings and the removal of obstacles, while Lakshmi symbolises love, abundance, prosperity and good fortune. Worn together, they are thought to bring balance, harmony and blessings — making this a particularly meaningful piece for a Valentine’s drop, whether gifted to a loved one or worn as a personal talisman.
